the
tree hugger
|
| This
hat was designed for the
wonderful bartender Brian, at
Enoteca Vespaio. He said he
loved trees so he got one on his
head! I used two different denim
pants for the pillbox style hat
and a felted sweater for the
decoration.

the
outrageous napoleon |
| This
impractical little thing was
designed for the Top Drawer
Thrift fashion show. The
designers said "make it
obnoxious" and so I did! I
don't expect to sell this one,
ever. The body is leather and
the top is from a vintage dress.
The gaudy beaded piece came from
a skirt they chopped up. |

pink
pillbox |
| I
wanted to make something that
Jackie O. might wear so I went
with this demure little pillbox.
But of course, I couldn't leave
it alone so it got an olive
branch to liven it up. The fuzzy
white top is from a vintage
sweater and the olive branch is
from a cardigan. Click on the
photo to see the matching wrap.

the
funky bride |
| This
is the first and last time I'll
ever wear something bridal. The
creative designers at the Top
Drawer fashion show asked for a
"funky bridal hat" and
this is what they got. The
fabric came from the bridal gown
they slaughtered to bring it up
to the 21st century. Be sure to
double click for something a
little extra.

the
curly cap |
| This
one was designed for my friend
Kisla who has delightfully curly
hair. She says she can't wear
symmetric hats so I took her
word for it and made her an
asymmetric one to mimic her
curls. All colors come from
felted sweaters.

rosie's
hat |
| My
friend Rosie Flores, aka
"Rockabilly Filly"
wanted me to make her a
signature hat to take on the
road and sell at her live shows.
This is her custom shade of red
in velvet. Click on the photo to
see the turquoise version that
matches her guitar.

world
of knives |
| My
friend Karl at Enoteca Vespaio,
who keeps me well-caffeinated,
requested this custom hat to
wear at the deli counter. I
asked him what shapes he likes
and all he said was:
"knives!" I used two
different wool skirts to carve
out this hat.

row,
row, row your boat... |
| Tommy
at Enoteca Vespaio told me he
was taking up rowing and needed
just the right hat for it. Guess
what his favorite colors are...
hot pink and navy blue. I think
he'll be the only one on Town
Lake in these colors. Click
on the photo to see the hat in
action!

meet
me at the speakeasy |
| A
lovely lady by the name of Pat
emailed me and asked if I could
make her a black leather cloche
hat (fancy word for bell) with
an aubergine trim (fancy name
for eggplant). The art deco
inspired pin has a silver bead.
It can be worn with the rim
flipped up for extra sass. Click

details.

the
Star Trek beret
|
| If
I could only remember Whoopie
Goldberg's character's name on
Star Trek TNG, that's what I
would call this hat. Big,
ostentatious, only for the very
brave. All the colors come from
felted sweaters. |

"e"
as in edible |
| I
made this men's legionnaire
style hat for a chef I admire -
Emmett of Asti and Fino fame.
The green suede is from a
enigmatically unstylish dress
and the brown leather is from a
boxy jacket. The plaid came from
a dull skirt. Click on the photo
to see the d-e-tails.
